OUR PURPOSE

The “CORNELIO ECOLOGICAL FOUNDATION of ACOSTA” (FUNDECOA) promotes preservation, renewal and education about natural resources in our country [Costa Rica]. Our organization exerts itself in defending its natural resources and in creating a solid base for future generations.

HISTORICAL OUTLINE of FUNDECOA

We have named our organization “THE CORNELIO ECOLOGICAL FOUNDATION OF ACOSTA”. This movement began due to a group of people worried about deterioration and destruction of our natural resources. The presence of unscrupulous and irresponsible business people, along with the lack of training of our town’s people, has made our forest to destruction. The interest demonstrated by the members have made possible the inscription of our Foundation in the Public Register under Judicial Document number 3-006-13435, initiating the process toward accomplishing our goals.

OUR GOALS

The world ecological problems do not exclude Acosta. This region is the victim of the irrational logging of its forest. Individuals whose only interest is lucrative take out large quantities of wood annually. These people do not have a real concept of damage they are causing, and even if they understand it, their desire for personal enrichment is greater.
With the extermination of the forest also rises the proliferation of pastures for livestock activity. This activity is developed in an inappropriate way since the landscape makes it impossible to have cattle on this type of terrain. The few areas of primary forest found in our county are not exempt from this devastation. Strong economic interest threatens the possibility of maintaining these virgin sites and the endangered species sheltered there. All this explains, motivates and justifies our fundamental goals which are:

• Saving our natural species.
• Developing consciousness, in all social classes, about the true riches and importance of our forests.

WHAT FUNDECOA REPRESENTS

• An alternative for defending our natural resources.
• A firm belief that through our organization we can take a stand against the destruction of the flora and fauna in our region.
• Making a promise of conservation in our community.
• A way to work together as a group in benefit of everyone.
• A concern from the people who want an ecological balance.
• Hope for future generations.
