VISIT OF DIRECTORS OF ACOPAC AT CORNELIO RESERVATION

 

 

 

The last April 6th (April 6, 2005) was carried out the first visit at The Cornelio Reservation by the Directors of Pacifico Central Conservation Area (ACOPAC in Spanish abbreviation) MINAE (Energy and Environment Minister of Costa Rica), Msc Rafael Gutierrez Rojas Director and Don Luis Quirós Rodríguez Sub-Director, together with two officials partners the MINAE office. By FUNDECOA was attended by Don Adilio Zeledón Mesén chairman, Mrs. Eulalia Fallas Vargas and José Edison Zeledón M. The purpose of the visit was to evaluating the work carried out by FUNDECOA in the Reservation. Furthermore make an inspection of some fallen trees long since, which we would be ourselves taking advantage in a work in the infrastructure of the Cabin and conditioning of paths inside the area of the Reservation.

 

 

Mr. Rafael Gutierrez expressed the importance of Conserving The Cornelio’s forests since he observed the great variety of species of Flora and Fauna which are at the place and have read the information that had been given in advance on the investigation works that have been carried out in the place, as well as the geographic location that the Reservation is.

 

About mobilization of the fallen trunks, it is for improvement of the Cabin and to condition the access to paths of the Reservation. This work would be being carried out, possibly, on month of February 2006 together with a voluntary group of the United States of America called “Potomac Appalachian Trail Club” (PATC). Some days ago partners of the PATC were visiting the Cornelio Reservation to know it. (www.hollandmark.com).

 

The Managers of MINAE traveled trough the places where the trunks are, as well as the places where we are planned to carry out the works into the paths. They gave us their approval to we carry out our projects in, they believe that the projects don't represent an extreme alteration in the habits where the works will be developed. About our project together with the PATC they expressed their interest in the execution of it since the effort of the FUNDECOA in preserving the place and to condition it for the Environmental Education. They added that the works in the Reservation demonstrate the efforts that have been made to preserve one of few refuge of Flora and Fauna in Acosta, later on they will send us a document, by the Directors of ACOPAC, where they express their approval officially, we must send them the study of environmental impact that it is being elaborated by the partners of the School of Biology of the University of Costa Rica. Also the work plan to carry out together with the partners of the PATC group.
